Smart Reminders

Linc's reminder system is the core of keeping your friendships healthy. Here's exactly how reminders work, how to customize them, and how to get the most out of them.

How Reminders Work

Linc uses a simple, interval-based reminder system. For each person in your list, you define a "check-in interval" — the maximum number of days you want to go between connecting. When the elapsed time since your last logged interaction exceeds that interval, Linc sends you a notification.

The reminder is a gentle nudge, not an alarm. It tells you the person's name and how long it's been since you last connected. From there, it's up to you to reach out however feels right — a text, a call, a voice note, or planning something in person.

After you connect, log the interaction in Linc. This resets the timer and pushes the next reminder out by your configured interval. If you don't log it, the reminder will resurface periodically until you do.

Frequency Options

Every person in your Linc list gets their own reminder interval. There's no single global setting — relationships are different, and your reminder frequency should reflect that.

7
days
Weekly
Best for close friends or family you want consistent contact with. Appropriate for relationships where a week of silence would feel like too long.
14
days
Biweekly
A balanced option for good friends where monthly feels too infrequent but weekly might be too much. Works well for most friendships.
30
days
Monthly
The most popular setting. Good for maintaining friendships with people whose lives are busy or who live far away. One meaningful conversation a month makes a real difference.
90
days
Quarterly
Ideal for extended network contacts, former colleagues, or people from earlier chapters of life. Keeps the connection alive without pressure.
Custom

Custom Interval
Set any number of days you want. 21 days, 45 days, 180 days — you choose the exact interval that matches your relationship and lifestyle.

Customization Options

Per-Person Intervals

Every person has their own independent timer. You're not locked into one frequency for everyone. Your college best friend can be set to weekly while a former coworker might be quarterly.

Change Anytime

Life changes. Maybe a friendship deepens and you want more frequent reminders, or maybe it's a season of lower contact. You can update any person's interval at any time — no restrictions.

Snooze Reminders

If you get a reminder at a bad time, you can snooze it. The notification will resurface later without affecting your interaction history. Snoozing doesn't mark the interaction as logged.

Pause Reminders

Going through a busy period? You can temporarily pause reminders for specific people or all reminders globally without losing your setup or interaction history.

How Notifications Are Delivered

Linc reminders are local push notifications scheduled directly on your device. The iOS notification system on your phone fires the alert based on the schedule calculated by the app — no external server is involved in delivering reminders.

This approach is more private, works offline, and is more battery-efficient. Note that reminder schedules are calculated per device, so notification timing may vary slightly between devices even with iCloud sync enabled.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Reminders

Log interactions when they happen

The reminder system is only as accurate as your logs. Try to log interactions the same day they happen so the timer starts from the right point.

Start with longer intervals and adjust down

It's better to start monthly and realize you want more frequent reminders than to start weekly and feel overwhelmed. You can always tighten the interval later.

Act on reminders promptly

When a reminder arrives, take action within a day or two if possible. A quick text sent the same day as the reminder is far better than putting it off until you forget.

Remove people if needed

It's okay to remove someone from Linc if the relationship has naturally run its course or if you're always ignoring that person's reminders. Your list should inspire action, not guilt.
